This talk guides the attendees through the “Mistakes in Retirement Planning”
Some key highlights were:
1- Don’t spend all your retirement fund at once. Get used to only spending 80% of your salary now.
2- Not investing in Roth. Roth is not taxed
3- Not planning on healthcare and not having long term care insurance. This insurance covers once activities of daily living when unable to complete them.
4- Saving too little
5- Not updating financial plans regularly (i.e., annually or when life situations change)
Do These at various ages:
50 – Put in 23k per year
55- Can take money out of 401K; There is penalty if taking out monthly.
65 – Sign up for Medicare
70 – Wait to retire as late as possible and get 8% more
70.5 -If you don’t take out your retirement, then you will get fined by government
Know that there are fees applied by brokers to manage your accounts for you if you choose.
Buy California “insured bond;†(Tips on buying bonds): South Dakota and North Dakota are good bonds to buy; it is well managed.
On Investing on metal:
Do not invest in precious metal
Do not invest in gold; when dollar goes up, gold goes down; inverse relation
Don’t invest in commodity
