Barksdale is an ISO 9001 registered manufacturer, specializing in the design of highly engineered controls products with market leadership in oil and gas, transportation, marine, machine tool, and construction and mining industries. Barksdale products are sold directly as well as through a network of channel partners and include: air suspension valves, directional control valves, pressure switches, temperature switches, solid state switches, level switches, transducers, transmitters and flow controls.

 JOB SUMMARY:

This is primarily a Lean based role and these efforts constitute an overreaching program known as Operational Excellence (OpEx).Provide leadership and project management within the entire facility for the implementation of continuous improvement programs, i.e., Kaizens and Just-Do-It initiatives, to the overreaching Value Stream(s) and cross-functional Departments of the business. All goals and direct metrics are in support of the Strategic and Operating Plans for Barksdale Inc.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or Engineering
  • 2 to 5 years experience in General Management preferably in roles that provide proven project management and execution skills
  • 2 to 5 years of direct experience in Kaizens both as team leader and facilitator. There must be evidence of both Transactional and Manufacturing based events
  • Highly confident public speaker
  • Robust understanding and proficiency in Change Management
  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on Lean Manufacturing and DMAIC process of Six Sigma
  • Strong knowledge of Business Systems and PC skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, MiniTab and AUTOCAD
  • Be career oriented and interested growing into the company

DIRECT AND INDIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work to create or revise the basic Value Stream Maps (VSM) of Barksdale and those in the key markets of Transportation, Fluid Power and Specialty Industrial
  • Provide facility wide training as required to maintain a culture of continuous improvement with emphasis on visual controls, management and 5S
  • Spearhead Lean events to address Kaizen Blasts as identified in the VSM’s
  • Lead, facilitate and audit Kaizen Events from the preparation to sustaining stage
  • Drive War On Waste initiatives to reduce all forms of waste across the front and back end of the business
  • Act as the coordinator to the Functional and Focus Factory teams in their efforts to provide continuous improvement on the needs of the VSM first and then cost reduction
  • Work as a member of the Executive Staff to assure programs and initiatives are following Lean processes
  • Own any and all Strategic initiatives within the Strategic Deployment Process (SDP) assigned to you
  • Administer company policies and procedures and recommend changes to current operating practices

EXPECTATIONS

  1. STRATEGIC LEVEL
  • Be part of the OpEx program, develop and implementation
  • Develop and implement companywide training programs on Continuous Improvement, Lean and 5S
  • Own the dashboard metrics of OpEx
  • Work to provide training on the principles of Operational Excellence in the areas of Lean, Continuous Improvement and Process Control within our Supplier Development Program
  1. TACTICAL LEVEL
  • Work directly with managers to improve office processes according to the VSM’s
  • Work directly with VP Operations and Focus Factory managers to improve shop processes as dictated by the VSM’s
  • Ensure that Standard Work, Standard Relationships and Standard Pathways are implemented throughout the company
  • Work with HR on companywide training
  • Provide a relentless backdrop of stretch targets in accordance with the SDP during all initiatives
  • Keep a communications board or system to show our progress and up-to-date marketing of our efforts
  • Work all Action Plan items to completion
  1. TEAM LEVEL
  • Work as a Team Leader for all  Continuous Improvement activities to ensure that processes are measured, monitored and controlled
  • Assure that you are a team player and always be professional, promote honesty, motivate and enforce accountability with the highest degree of integrity
  • Support teamwork and practice company values toward Standard Work, Standard Relationships and Standard Pathways
