Presedent-Elect for 2012

Please congratulate and welcome Michael Hogan as our President-Elect for the remainder of calender 2012.  Michael will assume the role of President of the LA chapter on January 1, 2013.  Mr Hogan also currently serves as Membership Director for our LA chapter and as the Vice President of IIE Western Region, which covers 13 states and 2500 IIE members.

  • It was a good attendance,18 total including the guest speaker
  • We discussed IE career paths; things members will encounter in the future… how they can cross over paths, new industries and new companies requiring IE’s and …. things IIE HQ and Faculty need to review to anticipate the expansion of the IIE profession.
  • Our guest speaker Cara Eichorn on how to use LinkedIn for job searching
  • We discussed the IE Consulting market how it brings opportunity in a changing economy
  • Raffle prizes included “The Work Simplification Book” and several gift cards
  • We announced a job opening for Mgr of Operations with IE background and Internship Positions at Edwards Life Sciences in Irvine (two candidates attended the meeting)chapter meeting for LA IIE on March 22, 2012 at Baxter

Calpoly Pomona Student Wins 2012 Process Paper Competition

Let’s hear it for IE student Geoffrey Cheung of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona , who takes this year’s Process Industry Competition first prize and $1500 to the Annual Conference in Orlando FL.  Geoffrey won with a paper submission “Coca-Cola Process Improvement ” based on his work at Coca-Cola in SoCal.

Congratulations to Calpoly Pomona (Geoffrey and Dr. Abedini) First Place.

The biggest difference between today’s employment world and that of our fathers’ is the rapid pace of corporate change. Expectations of company stability and long lasting employment are a thing of the past. If one isn’t tuned into the signals of corporate change it can mean an unexpected layoff and months of unemployment and job searching. Do you have a career management plan to ensure your career growth in times of corporate chaos?

To prevent career disaster, live by these three rules of career management:
